Pope sends 25 000 euro to North Bohemia stricken by floods

Northern Bohemia has been stricken by several sudden floods in last 2 weeks. Pope Benedict XVI. will contribute a sum of 25 000 euro to people in need in the diocese Litoměřice. Mons. Dominik Duka OP, Prague Archbishop and President of the Czech Bishops´ Conference during his visit of the affected region promised a financial help of Archbishopric of Prague (10 000 euro) and of the Czech Bishops´ Conference (4 000 euro).

Czech National Meeting of Youth Leaders in Kroměříž 2010

One week long Czech National Meeting of Youth Leaders started in Kroměříž in Moravia on Sunday August 15, 2010. Bishop Jiří Paďour from České Budějovice and responsible for youth opened the meeting and welcomed approximately 400 young people from the whole Czech Republic. Also Prague Archbishop Dominik Duka attended this event and on Monday August 16, 2010 in the afternoon was welcomed by Mr. Miloš Malý, the mayor of the city Kroměříž.

Letter to the state officials concerning the flood

Archbishop Dominik Duka OP, President of the Czech Bishops’ Conference and Archbishop Jan Graubner, Delegate of the Czech Bishops‘ Conference for the work of Caritas, have sent a letter of thanks to the state officials for the support and help from the side of state authorities to the areas stricken with the flood.

Summary of the 81st plenary of Czech bishops

On July 2-7, 2010, bishops of the Czech Republic and representatives of religious orders met in Velehrad at their 81st plenary meeting, presided by Archbishop Dominik Duka OP, president of the Czech Bishops' Conference.

On Monday June 14, 2010 in the late afternoon, auxiliary bishop emeritus of Prague Mons. Jaroslav Škarvada died in Prague at the age of almost 86 years.

Quarter of million visitors during the Night of Churches

On May 28, 2010 the Night of Churches took place for the first time in the whole Czech Republic under the patronage of all diocesan Bishops and a number of officials from the political sphere. The first run of this event was organised in the diocese Brno a Plzeň last year. This initiative has ecumenical character and gives the broadest public the possibility to learn cultural and spiritual heritage of sacral buildings in our country in an interesting way. Nearly 250.000 people visited more than 400 church sites during this night.
