President of the Czech Bishops' Conference Archbishop Jan Graubner of Olomouc comments the appointment of a new archbishop of Prague.
Today (Feb 13, 2010), Holy Father Benedict XVI has appointed Bishop Dominik Duka of Hradec Kralove, new archbishop of Prague.
According to the figures released by the Caritas Czech Republic, the money gathered in the Three Kings Collection so far reach some 67.5 million crowns (2.6 million Euros), this being the largest proceeds of the collection in its ten-year-long history.
Not only a collection, organized by the Caritas Czech Republic, will help victims of the Haiti earthquake, but also a January collection that took place in churches all over the Czech Republic. So far, some 27 million CZK (one million EUR) has been collected to help the needy in Haiti.
On Jan 19-20, 2010, the 79th plenary meeting of the Czech Bishops' Conference took place in Prague, attended by bishops of the Czech Republic and representatives of the Conferences of Major Superiors of Men and Women Religious Orders. Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Diego Causero addressed the bishops at the beginning.
The 79th plenary meeting of the Czech Bishops' Conference will take place on Jan 19-20, 2010 in Prague. The two-day event in the Capuchin monastery in Loreta will be preceded by an ecumenical worship service at the St Thomas' church in Prague on Monday, Jan 18 at 6 pm.

On Monday, Dec 7, 2009 Cardinal Miloslav Vlk inaugurated and blessed a memorial statue of his predecessor, Cardinal Josef Beran (1888-1969), built in front of the priestly seminary in Prague-Dejvice. The event took place in a context of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Communist regime in the Czech Republic.
